Two Recalls, Two Serious Hazards
In the first of the two recalls, Subaru announced that their newer model Outbacks and Legacys contain a defective windshield wiper motor. The motor can easily overheat, causing either the wipers to stop working mid-swipe or the unit to get so hot that it melts. The melting motor and motor housing has the potential to catch fire, harming not only the vehicle, but any occupants as well. This recall affects nearly 200,000 Subaru vehicles.
The second recall was performed by Chevrolet. Their 2011-2012 Chevy Corvettes have been found to contain faulty rear hatches. In the event of an accident, the hinges, failing to meet safety standards, cannot bear the weight of the rear hatch. This causes the hatch to separate and cause serious injuries. The recall will affect over 5,000 Corvettes.
