A: Not really. As long as a driver has a commercial drivers license, most trucking companies will consider that enough training. State and Federal regulations have certain criteria that truck drivers are supposed to meet, but a lot of trucking companies ignore those regulations. Some companies will do a short driving test with the newly hired driver, but that's typically just someone riding around with the new driver for a very short period of time to make sure the driver knows the basic operations. It is by no means any specialized training. The bottom line is that a large number of truckers on the roadway do not have sufficient training to drive an 18 wheeler safely.
